Description
A heavily rusted drain cover with small round holes, evenly spaced. Flaking away and disintegrating.
Curator's Notes
A prime example of the continuing material breakdown of the urban environment.
Now also a prime example of the continuing material breakdown of objects in the Material City Museum.
The point of a museum is normally to keep an object intact. But here there will be no conservation. Eventually this object will just fall apart. It’s more rust than metal at this point anyway. Now, when it does fall apart I will put the pieces in a jar, but only the memory of the original drain grill will remain. The original object will become something else.
I’ll leave you to ponder that.
